Engage your students by giving them a whole day to understand and perform a play.
‘The children responded brilliantly. Direction was clear as were expectations. Developmental feedback given had clear and immediate impact.’ Esme Holliday Year Five Teacher Abbey Lane Primary School
The specially commissioned play tells the true story of Cynisca, the Spartan Princess who becomes the first female Olympian. It is full of character and humour.
Picture
It has all the basic elements of an Ancient Greek play:
  • a chorus
  • squabbling gods
  • reported action
  • working on the thrust or open staging
  • optional mask work.
Picture
The approach is ‘knowledge rich’ as it includes:
  • script based work
  • lots of learning about meaning and grammar in a practical way
  • lots of learning about ancient Greek theatre
  • learning about the ancient Greek states of Athens and Sparta
  • learning about the ancient Greek Olympics
  • learning about ancient Greek gods
  • learning the true story of an unknown woman
  • and it is full of challenging language.

The day also encourages students to develop their:
  • creativity
  • working with others
  • confidence.
‘I have also built my confidence in front of my classmates, I would only improve the day by having a longer day learning because it was epic.’ Year Five Charnock Hall Primary School

The day is suitable for groups from upper Key stage II.
