Whitworks Adventures in Theatre has three basic approaches to creating performances -
Gertie always adapts so that the work is the best fit to the school and young people concerned. Gertie seeks to empower young people in all aspects of the production and makes sure the approach is fully inclusive.
Cost will depend on the length of the play and the time spent in preparation and delivery.

- Directing a Commissioned Script

“The play was a risk. It contained a high level of challenge in terms of the complexity of lines to be learnt, drama and acting, staging and the content. On top of this we took the decision to perform in the round, making the performance more intimate but also increasing the drama techniques necessary to perform in this way. The end result was stunning and again the feedback has been incredibly positive. The children all feel incredibly proud of their ability and the end result. The staff have been challenged and taken out of their comfort zone but they have seen what is possible and have had their expectations raised which all contributes to raising standards right across the school.”

These two sets of photos are from Christmas WW1 performances by Year 6s in two different schools. Staged on 3 sides, both performances used the children’s own writing alongside true local stories with national perspectives.

“The quality of performance achieved was superb and way beyond anything we could achieved without Gertie.”

“I was proud because my part in the play was so funny that my wig fell off and everybody laughed at me. And when we went back to class everyone told me how funny I was and I cried because I was happy and surprised.”

Another recent example is Gertie worked with sixteen Y8, 9 and 10 students at Farnborough Academy in Nottingham with historical news articles to create a performance. They created and recorded the scenes or freeze frames or mime which Gertie then put into a script and then directed the group for a performance.
